Welcome to Scalpel’s 17th Annual Conference: Re-thinking the Cut. This year’s conference focuses on the theme of surgical innovation, exploring recent developments in surgery that have challenged the status quo, and considering how the field may continue to evolve in the future.
At the conference, you can expect to hear from speakers at the forefront of their fields, leading work in minimally invasive surgery and implementing novel applications of robotics and AI, participate in your choice of 15+ workshops covering the full range of surgical specialties, observe (or present your own!) high-quality oral and poster presentations from students and recent graduates on their surgery-themed research work, and observe the winning project pitches from the Scalpel x MedTech Hackathon: Innovating Surgical Oncology. Also featuring the ever-popular ‘Battle of the Surgical Specialties’ panel debate – this time student-led, with representatives from each major University of Manchester specialty surgical society, in a contest to see which surgical specialty comes out on top!
