Scalpel presented a poster at the 2025 Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Research Symposium, exploring how our Surgical Experience Fair influenced medical students\u2019 perceptions of a surgical career. The project demonstrated significant improvements in students\u2019 understanding of surgical training pathways, feelings of support, access to role models, and perceptions of inclusivity within surgery. The findings highlight how Scalpel helps inspire confidence, demystify training, and create a supportive environment for aspiring surgeons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Scalpel team recently presented an oral presentation at the 2025 Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) Innovation Summit. This study analysed data from the 2023 and 2024 Scalpel conferences to find their impact on delegate confidence in surgical skills. The abstract will soon be published in The Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Scalpel committee members authored a letter in The BMJ<\/em> outlining how our society adapted to disrupted teaching by creating a student-led anatomy webinar series. The piece reflects our commitment to supporting peers during national challenges, promoting accessible surgical education, and using innovation to bridge gaps in training. This publication highlights Scalpel\u2019s long-standing ethos of stepping up for the student community and contributing meaningfully to medical education discourse.
