2016 Committee Applications Are Now Open!

Note: Applications for the committee have now closed.

Please make sure you read the following role requirements before submitting your application:

All roles have the addition of ‘supportive role’ i.e. they must be willing to undertake jobs that do not strictly come under their role. This is particularly true of hospital and phase 1 representatives who have a comparatively smaller role than the others.

 Vice President

Supporting role of president. Must have good management/leadership skills. Innovative thinking and ability to put plans/ideas into action is also a bonus.

Secretary

Note minutes at each meeting writing each point, action plan or final decision. Forward these to the committee.

Treasurer

Organising banking and creating event budgets. This will involve visiting the students union regularly to organise transfers etc. Also take control of securing sponsorship, this involves a lot of emails and a bit of negotiation.

Conference Director

Organise an undergraduate surgical conference for around 150 people. You need to be organized, able to get things done early and able to budget. Good management and leadership skills required.

NB due to the extent of this role it is unlikely that it will be awarded to an external candidate. We have decided to open the application for it incase there is somebody that can demonstrate direct experience of running large events. If this is something you are interested in but have little experience of, it may be more advisable to apply for Skills Day director with a view to advancing to conference director the year after.

Workshop Lead

Organise 2 skills days during the year. You need to be organized, able to get things done early and able to budget. Good management and leadership skills required. Ideally some events organization experience although this is not necessary.

Lecture Lead

Organise fortnightly lectures, ensuring venues are booked. Requires a consistent level of organisation and lots of planning in advance.

Communications & Publicity

Creating event pages, organising posters, facebook, twitter, MHS announcements, emails to members etc. Ideally experience of above or willingness to learn is required. Answering emails to the society or forwarding them on to the appropriate committee member. The role also includes writing and sending the fortnightly newsletter to our members.

Membership & IT

Maintain database of members.
Maintain and update www.scalpelmanchester.com website (including surgicalTALK) – a good level of IT skill is required for this and an eye for detail.

Year 1, 2 & Base Hospital Reps

Advertise events to students in hospitals/Stopford – posters and shout outs in lectures also utilizing facebook and twitter.

We look forward to reading your applications and hopefully welcoming you to the committee next year!
